Annual motorcycle drive honors octogenarian

It was a glorious Saturday afternoon. The sun was glistening, and a slight breeze made the moderate temperatures all the more enjoyable. It was the kind of day that made you thankful to be alive – despite the pandemic.

Led by a 1929 Model A Ford, 50 riders hit the open road on 30 motorcycles and behind the wheel of three classic cars. The sun, the wind and the rumble of 34 perfectly tuned machines offered a welcome respite from face masks and social distancing, as the 16th Annual Lance Blood Motorcycle Drive got underway.

The drive, organized by Kennedy Tractor proprietor John Kennedy, is an annual event sponsored by the Camden Cycle Riders. It honors 81-year-old Lance Blood, who began repairing motorcycles in his Lee Center shop more than 60 years ago. His reputation for technical expertise and fair dealings spread among bike owners, near and far.

It wasn't long before Camden bike owners made their way to Lance's garage. Coinciding with his 45th year in business, the Camden Cycle Riders decided to organize a drive to honor the now octogenarian. The drive continues to get bigger and better.
